The Start of Healing…

begins with your gut.

Research has shown that a healthy gut is essential for overall wellness, and is linked to improved mental and physical health. An unhealthy gut can lead to a variety of issues like poor digestion, nutrient deficiencies, and even skin problems. Incorporating probiotics, prebiotics, and fiber into your diet can help your body maintain a healthy gut microbiome, which is fundamental for healing and optimal health.

Why do we focus on probiotics for a healthy gut?

These “good” bacteria help maintain the natural balance of organisms in our intestines. When the microflora is balanced, there is support to: our immune system, our digestive health, overall well-being. A well balanced microflora also aids in proper digestion, in reducing inflammation, and can improve your mood. This also leads to reducing the recurrence of infections like urinary tract infections, diarrhea, and yeast infections.

When choosing the right probiotic, the more the merrier. Look at the label! You want to look for a probiotic with at least 5-100 BILLION CFU (colony-forming units, aka the number of bacteria per dose). Diversity is your friend in probiotics. You want a supplement that contains numerous strands of bacteria. Again, the more the merrier.

To get started, try adding foods like yogurt, miso, kefir, and sauerkraut, as well as fiber-rich foods like whole grains, legumes, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
